Oliver Aldridge is a specialist in addiction medicine, and has been the Medical Lead for the Edinburgh, Midlothian, and East Lothian Drug Treatment and Testing Order (DTTO) services since 2004. Dr Aldridge holds certificates in the management of both drug misuse and alcohol problems from the Royal College of General Practitioners, and certification from the International Society of Addiction Medicine.
A key area of interest for Dr Aldridge is the promotion of sustained recovery from addiction, incorporating the range of biological, psychological, social, and policy issues that underpin addiction. He has strong links with the voluntary sector, having served on the board of the Scottish Drugs Forum since 2006 and being a current member of the board of the Howard League for Penal Reform (Scotland) and a member of the advisory panel to the board of Circle, a Scottish charity working at the heart of deprived communities across central Scotland. He currently serves on the Scottish Government’s National Delivery Group for Drugs and Alcohol, and is a member of the Scottish Drug Specialists Committee, the Scottish Medico- Legal Society, the International Doctors for Healthier Drug Policies global network, and NHS Lothian’s Deprivation Interest Group.
Dr Aldridge has been an invited speaker at a number of conferences and Scottish parliamentary events on drugs and alcohol, as well as having developed and delivered training programmes for the City of Edinburgh Council Social Work Department on Drugs Awareness and New Psychoactive Substances.
