Daniel Duprez, MD, PhD

Daniel Duprez earned his medical degree in 1980 and a degree as Doctor in Biomedical Sciences (DSc) in 1985 from Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium. He was a Fellow (research associate physiology) in the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases and Cardiovascular Physiology and Pharmacology at the Mayo Graduate Medical School in Rochester, MN, USA, from 1985 to 1986.
In 1989, he received his PhD degree in cardiology from Ghent University, where he subsequently held a number of posts until 2001, including Professor of Cardiovascular Diseases from 1997 to 2001. Professor Duprez is currently a cardiologist and Director of Research at the Rasmussen Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at the University of Minnesota Health Center; Professor of the Department of Medicine, Cardiovascular Division, and holder of the Donald and Patricia Garofalo Chair for Preventive Cardiology at the University of Minnesota; and Professor of Epidemiology and Community Health at the School of Public Health of the University of Minnesota (all in Minneapolis). Professor Duprez has clinical interests that include primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, arterial hypertension, lipid disorders, detection of early cardiovascular disease, biomarkers and cardiovascular disease, and HIV and cardiovascular disease.
During his career, Professor Duprez has authored or co-authored more than 600 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has been a speaker at more than 1,000 scientific meetings. He is currently a reviewer for many scientific journals, including Circulation, European Heart Journal, Journal of Hypertension, and Cardiovascular Research, and is on the editorial board of journals such as Hypertension, Journal of the American Society of Hypertension, and Vascular Health and Risk Management. Professor Duprez has chaired or co-chaired numerous scientific meetings, including the first three International Conferences on Prehypertension and Cardio Metabolic Syndrome (2012–2014). He is also Vice President of the International Society of Vascular Health and Aging (2013–2015).
